Abundant Kea Plums growing on our farm in Cornwall

Kea Plums
We are very fortunate to live within the Fal Estuary where the Kea plum, which takes its name from the village of the same name, grows in rambling orchards. Historically the plum has represented an important contribution to the livings of the villagers of Kea, Coombe, Cowlands and other Fal villages.
On our farm we are blessed with around 30 Kea Plum trees, which have been laden with fruit for the past 2 months. This year has been a particularly good year for the fruit and we are frantically transforming the plums into delicious Jellies, Jams and Chutney. The Kea is a jamming plum, a little too tart to eat fresh, but has an exquisite flavour when made into Jam.
All our Jam & Jelly contain only Kea Plums, a splash of fresh lemon juice and sugar. It is made on our farm in the traditional way with lots of stirring, straining and de-stoning! All our Kea plums are picked daily from September to October and transformed into our special "Extra Jams", Jellies and chutney. We use 65% Kea Plums in our Jams and Jellies, some Jams only contain 25%
We use brand new jars which are sterilised (we use recycle jars for family and friends!) all our jams are sealed with wax discs and will keep unopened indefinitely. Once opened it is advisable to keep them refrigerated and use within 6 weeks. You may find some residue when opening the Jelly for the first time — this is because we do not use any artificial sugars. I know that a number of chefs (including Delia) recommend whisking butter into the Jelly to disperse it but we didn’t want to do this as it would then become unsuitable for all our vegetarian friends!
The postage for one 8oz jar of jam will be £1.95 each, unfortunately the Jam weighs quite heavy. If you order 5 or more jars the postage will be £6.00 and your order will be sent by Fedex.
